Privacy, License, Disclaimer & Other Legal Stuff

This page was last updated over 6 years ago. We will update it again once we fully launch our new brand in 2024.

I’m not a fan of legal mumbo-jumbo either, so I’ll try to make this quick, painless & easy enough for a 9-year-old to understand. Of course, you can always contact me if you have questions. Any changes to this policy will be posted on this page.

Affiliate Disclaimer

While our first-and-foremost goal is, and always will be, to teach you WordPress… we need to make money in order to continue publishing valuable content for you, our readers.

Certain links throughout the site are affiliate links. If you decide to purchase a product or service via one of these links, we might receive a commission for referring you. Rest assured, this does not increase your cost at all. In fact, we hope to build partnerships so we can offer you discounts on commercial WordPress products.

We are always 100% truthful in our reviews & analysis, and will never recommend a theme or plugin that we don’t truly believe in.

Data Collection & Cookies

Your Personal Information

There are several places on the site where you can choose to provide your personal information. I’ll explain:

  • who is collecting it
  • what we do with it
  • how we store & protect it
  • how you can access/delete it

Who is collecting it?

Escape Creative, LLC owns and operates this site. Escape Creative is the company responsible for collecting your data & keeping it safe.

What we do with it?

Email Newsletters
Throughout the site, you can provide your email address to sign up for our newsletter. We store this information in our third-party email marketing platform, MailChimp. We send out occasional newsletters with information we think you might find helpful. You can unsubscribe at any time using a link in the newsletter, or email me and ask to be removed.

We never share or sell your email address to anyone.

Website Comments
If you choose to leave a comment on one of our articles, we ask for your name & email address. We use this information to:

  • create a more personal dialog between ourselves and our audience
  • identify you as a real human, which helps us cut down on spam comments by robots
  • potentially contact you in order to better answer a question or help you with a problem. This will always be a personal email sent from a human, and never a marketing message.

How do we store & protect your information?

For those on our mailing list, MailChimp handles all storage and protection of your data. You can read about MailChimp’s security policy & GDPR compliance directly on their website.

If you’ve provided your name and email address through a comment form on our site, we store that information on one of our web servers. Your information is protected in two ways:

  • physical security at the data centers of our third-party web host, Google Cloud Platform (via Kinsta)
  • security measures we implement to prevent malicious attacks or login attempts on our site

How to access or delete your information?

At any time, you can request access to all personal information we have on you by emailing me and providing me with your name & email address. I will provide you with all personal data we have collected about you, or delete that information upon request.

Website Analytics

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to track aggregate web traffic statistics on the site. We collect basic information about visits to the site, including, but not limited to: how the visitor found us, which pages were viewed & what actions were taken. We might also collect demographic information (age, gender) or your general interests. This information could have been gathered from your Google profile, videos you’ve watched on YouTube or previous ads you’ve interacted with. You can update your demographic & interest settings here. We do not collect any personally-identifiable information.

We use this information to learn how our audience is using the site, and where we should be focusing our efforts to make improvements. We may share general site statistics (total visitors, total pageviews, etc.) publicly, or with potential advertisers.

You can read more about Google’s Privacy Policy, or opt-out of being included in our stats.

We use cookies for a few things.

  • To collect general, non-personal website traffic data
  • To customize the experience for first-time vs. returning visitors (by remembering certain actions or preferences)

Google may use the data collected by cookies:

  • to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network

Please use any and all information you find on this site to get better. Make yourself better. Make your client’s site better. That’s why we’re here, to help you learn. Feel free to take code samples & ideas from the site — use them, disagree with them and expand upon them. Attribution is not necessary, but it’s always cool to find out that your work is being used for good.

As long as you aren’t doing anything to harm our business or our readers, then we’re cool ;-)
